Ed Kostrzewski

Ed was the founder of the club back in 1985. He was originally a body builder but took an interest in weightlifting after completing his Level 1 Coaching Course. The club actually began in the small town of Clifton before it moved to Toowoomba in 1986, based at the old Toowoomba Gym in Ruthven Street, which Ed owned. There were only six members in the beginning. In 1991 a club committee was formed of which Ed was a member for several years. Ed was the man mainly responsible for organising and running many of the competitions in the early years.

Bill Dusra

Bill was an influential member of the club for many years from the early 1990’s and served on the TWA committee as Secretary between 1993 and 1999. Bill became a level 1 coach and state referee. Bill coached club lifters at state and national level.

Brian Walsh

Brian was another of the founding members of the club in 1986. Brian was a long standing TWA committee member in the position of Treasurer between 1991 and 1997. He has also been a referee and until recently Brian volunteered at all local competitions. The TWA has been very fortunate to have always had his commitment and support. With Brian’s passing in 2014 the TWA lost a great supporter and friend.

Chris Walsh

Chris was also a founding member of the club in 1986 and served on the TWA committee between 1991 and 2014. For ten of those years Chris was President of the TWA and later Secretary. Chris was one of the club’s first competitors, taking part in many state events and went on to represent Queensland at national level. Chris is also a qualified coach and state level referee. He continues to support the club by refereeing at club and state competitions.

Greg Hobl

Greg moved to Toowoomba in 1990 in his job as a school teacher. He was responsible for identifying more junior lifters for the club, establishing the TWA Committee in 1991, having the club ‘Incorporated’ and moving the club to its current location at Toowoomba State High School in 1992. Greg has been the most dedicated club member and without his commitment it’s doubtful if the club would still be around today.Greg was TWA President from 2001 to 2013 and still sits on the TWA Committee as Vice-President. He is still the head coach of the club and has coached many Toowoomba lifters to International representation. Greg is currently an AWF National Level coach and regularly coaches at major national and international events for Queensland and Australia.
