WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

Initially you don’t need any special equipment. Come along in comfortable training clothes (shorts and T-shirt) and wear some joggers. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle so you can keep hydrated. Being Toowoomba you may also need some warm clothing to put on after training! You may wish to buy yourself some weightlifting shoes once you have been training for a while.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

It really depends on how quickly you want to improve. We believe you need to train a minimum of 2 times per week to begin with. If you wish to improve more rapidly training 3 times per week is recommended. Many of our more experienced lifters train between 4 and 5 times a week!

HOW LONG IS A TRAINING SESSION?

Initially a beginner would only need to train for approximately 1 hour. As your skill and performance levels increase your training sessions may last for between 1 and 2 hours.

WHAT DOES A TRAINING SESSION CONSIST OF?

Nearly all training sessions will be a mixture of technical training and strength training. The technical focus will always be on the competition Olympic lifts – the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. As well as these two classical lifts there will be many assistance exercises used to develop specific aspects of each lift. You also need to be strong to be a weightlifter so there will be plenty of exercises to build all round strength.
